The Hip-Hop and Black communities have consistently been associated with and blamed for violence in our own neighborhoods, at our own events, and within our own social circles. However, this blame comes without any analysis of the structures which exist historically and currently to ensure this violence persists and perpetuates to the benefit of the wealthy elite of America and to the detriment of black and brown people. The Upper Room Collective believes we must understand the roots of violence in our communities, and create strategies to address this issue as a community. Our intention is to begin this conversation at this event.

-The connection between the war on the black power movement and current state of the Black community
-The current efforts to stem the violence in prisons
-The Work and Freedom Campaign of U.S. Political Prisoners
-The story of U.S. Political Prisoner Chip Fitzgerald and the current status of his health and legal needs.
-The role & responsibility of Hip-Hop Culture in addressing social justice issues existing in Black and Brown communities
-Strategies for members of the local hip-hop and entertainment community to curb violence at events
